For the first time, tap water reached the hamlet in Satpuda...

There is a severe water shortage in the remote areas of Satpuda. People in many hamlets of Dhadgaon taluka, which lack roads, electricity, and mobile networks, have to wander around looking for water. They have to risk their lives to fetch water from streams located in mountain valleys. The government machinery here is only in name.

There is a huge shortage of fodder and water in the Uddya, Kundya, and Zhapi areas where Yung Foundation works. Dilip Jain of DJED Foundation took the initiative to help arrange drinking water in this area. There is a severe shortage of drinking water in the hamlet of Sadri on the banks of the Narmada in the Uddya area. The situation here is like having a dam right above while the throat remains dry. The water in the massive Sardar Sarovar is visible right in front but cannot be used.

It was challenging to bring water to the two hamlets of Sadri. Along with the team from Yung Foundation and through public participation, a small well was dug at a place with a stream in both hamlets, but water was found in only one place while very little water was found in the other. Therefore, the people were disappointed. Finally, it was decided to install a solar pump in the Narmada riverbed to bring water. Solar panels and pumps were brought by vehicle from Dhadgaon to Bhusha, and then the supplies were transported to the hamlet by traveling 7-8 km by boat through the river. While installing the pump, it was necessary to make trips of 80 km to Dhadgaon 2-3 times just to bring minor items. The solar pump installation team stayed in the hamlet for two days. By laying a pipe from the river to the hamlet, water reached the water tank. When the taps were turned on, boys and girls got drenched in the water under the taps, because water had come to the taps in their hamlet for the first time.

In fact, leave alone the government machinery in this area, even NGOs are not ready to work. However, Dilip Jain made a valuable contribution to bringing water to these two remote hamlets. He is also involved in the Nisarga Samvad schools run by Yung Foundation for out-of-school children. There is still a need for help to bring water to many more hamlets.
Dilip Jain Heartfelt thanks to you and DJED Foundation!
